...Can sociopathy / psychopathy be treated?

Or something someone lives with?

yes it can be treated the question is - does the person want to be treated? Usually the person does not see an issue and thus doesn't want help. Sociopath/psychopath probably derives from early and long term trauma, its a mechanism developed to keep the person alive.

Sociopathy/Psychopathy doesn't really exist (or at least there is much contention as to it's existence). But there are several types of Personality disorder that are ofen called Sociopathy/Psychopathy. Antisocial PD and Narcisistic PD being the most common.

The general thinking in terms of PD is that they are untreatable. There was a big thing about it a few years ago because you can only section someone who has a treatable mental illness.

However over the past few years people have started to make some progress in developing a treatment through talking therapies. Most notable is the use of Dialectical Behaviour Therapy in the treatment of Borderline PD.

Hope that helps. But feel free to nudge me if you have any more questions.
