It seems what happened was there was a very very heavy burst of rain on the M61 yesterday, and my colleague went from the right hand lane, and slowed down and went in to the left hand lane and dropped down to 40-50 mph...
Someone in the right hand lane lost control of their vehicle, hit the central reservation, and then came towards the middle lane, of which there was a woman who promptly swerved left to avoid the other vehicle, and took my colleague clean off his bike. He apparently just slid down the hard shoulder, his leathers taking the beating, and by all accounts he was also hydroplaning!!
He came to a rest only to see behind him a lorry jack kniving and heading towards him - cue him scramble up the embankment sharpish!!!
He got taken to hospital, he's got some more bruises, and buggered his ankle even more, as it's just about recovering from the last time he came off (as his bike landed on his leg as he was only doing a handful MPH!).
So - He's not so good - I tried to give him a call earlier, but he sent me to voicemail (I am sure he is sick and tired of calls already!).
(Scary or what??? First getting taken off your bike - then the back end of a lorry trying to wipe you out!!)
Interestingly, my sisters boyfriend was just coming down the motorway a few minutes behind them, and basically he said the water was as deep as his tyres - and standing, rather than just puddles... So I assume basically the guy on the right hand lane was going too fast / didn't have good enough tyres / had crap wet weather tyres (how some budget tyres are allowed on the road I don't know!).
Still - Yeah - Just spoken to him (rang me back) - and the account is more or less correct...
Only problems I can forsee for him is insurance - He's only got TPFT - Can he claim on the woman that hit him, even though the original accident was not her fault - (although from what I gather she pulled right in front of my colleague and took the front wheel of his bike out).
*shrugs*
Madness.
Here's to life eh??
